We are delighted to announce the inaugural annual Surrey Future & Surrey Development Forum Conference at the Guildford Harbour Hotel on the 25th November 2021.
Building on the work already underway as part of Surrey’s 2050 Place Ambition, the event will focus on what “Good Growth” really means for Surrey and how the ‘Place Ambition’ provides a framework to achieve this in an integrated way.
Who will be there?
Local Authorities – Elected Members and Senior Council Officers
Communities – recognised community organisations
Industry – developers investing in and working across Surrey
The conference will explore how all sides can work together to create a vision and plan for what the future of Surrey will look like and how, together, they can ensure it thrives for the longer term.
It will provide participants with information on the collaborative work which is taking place and will seek views on good growth for Surrey and how effective community engagement will help to achieve it.
We are operating in an environment where planning at a local level remains a hot topic and with a new Minister in position, national planning reforms are already being rewritten.
In the context of the decline of traditional retail, the ongoing housing crisis and the need to tackle climate change, now is the time to bring the public, private and community sector organisations working in Surrey together. If the Place Ambition is ever to be delivered, we all need to be involved in the discussion and this conference will provide an important opportunity to help shape Surrey’s future.

Session 1 – The Big Debate: What is Good Growth? Chaired by Councillor Tim Oliver, Leader – Surrey County Council
Session 2 – What does Good Growth mean for our town centres and our rural communities? – Chair tbc
Keynote speech – Victoria Hills, Chief Executive – Royal Town Planning Institute
Session 3 – Good Green Growth? Balancing net zero, good design and the need for improved infrastructure and connectivity – Chaired by Rob Moran, Chief Executive – Elmbridge Borough Council and Chair of Surrey Future Steering Board
